Last night was my first assignment under my newly-formed relationship with the Long Beach Post. I was approached a little over a week ago, and asked if I would be willing to join their team as a photojournalist. I’ve always loved Long Beach, but for almost a year now we haven’t lived downtown. I miss being a part of Summer & Music, and showing artwork in the parks on Sundays…so this sounded like a perfect opportunity for me to reunite with the Long Beach community, but in a different, more mutually beneficial way. It just so happens that I know the newly appointed Executive Editor, Sarah Bennett, from my four years living in downtown Long Beach.
Sarah asked me to stop by the Gentlemen’s Drink event inauguration at the Stache Bar (Fourth & Alamitos) and take some shots for the Post galleries, and discuss future opportunities working together. I had a little extra time at the event, so I spoke with Daniel, the craft cocktail connoisseur responsible for Gentlemen’s Drink, and heard his plight. He’s striving to bring awareness of craft cocktails, their history, and their delicious ways to Long Beach. Unfortunately Long Beach is devoid of any true craft cocktail bars, but with community, Daniel is hoping to change the status quo.
I stayed around for a few hours, grabbing a few shots of the local patrons enjoying their tasty libations, and also threw in a few portraits of the Stache bartenders and Daniel himself. I look forward to continued work with the Long Beach Post and will definitely post (pun intended) more information as it develops! Until then, stay thirsty my friends, and please, enjoy a craft cocktail now and then 😉
