Welcome back for more wedding goodies! If you guys missed our last wedding at the sunny Bahia Hotel in San Diego, CA, you can certainly just head on over and take a peek. San Diego Beach Wedding at the Bahia Hotel – Part One & San Diego Beach Wedding Reception at the Bahia Hotel – Part Two. I have to preface this blog post: I believe this is one of the most amazing weddings we’ve had the pleasure of shooting this year. The venue was a private estate just south of Salem, OR, and it was mind-blowingly stunning. At times, we are limited by venues…but this time, the venue challenged us to keep up with it! Hence, Part One of the Herbel Wedding: The property featured a large pond, complete with waterfalls that begin at the upper terraces. The altar was set on a dock protruding into the pond, and the ceremony seating was arranged on a large, paved area Read More

Welcome back for the remainder of the Shepard Wedding Blog – Part Two! If you missed Part One of the Shepard Wedding and their wonderful beach ceremony at the Bahia in Mission Bay San Diego, you can see that by visiting the following link:  The Shepard Wedding Blog – Part One. Our journey with the Shepards picks back up just after the ceremony with some more wedding party goodness…and of course we’ve got to throw a few fun ones in there. Remember how awesome I told you this wedding party was?!  Well if you didn’t believe me, you will after you see how much fun they’re having. They did a full-blown dance routine to LMFAO’s Party Rock Anthem…I totally wish we were shooting video of this, because it was ridiculously awesome! After the fantastic first dance images we managed to grab…which I absolutely LOVE, some of the party rockers got back out there on the dance floor and went to Read More

Today we are happy to bring you a beautiful wedding from the Bahia Resort in Mission Beach San Diego, CA. We’re so thrilled to have worked with the Shepards, I cannot stress just how genuine and thoughtful they are. We also had the pleasure of doing their engagement photos last fall – Balboa Park & La Jolla Engagement Session. If you missed our last wedding, you can see it here Merrywood Farm Portland Oregon Wedding & Recption – Part One and here Merrywood Farm Portland Oregon Wedding & Reception – Part Two. Like I said before, Mike and Sherilyn are just great to work with, and we knew that from shooting their engagement session. But, to my surprise, they also had one of the most amazing wedding parties I’ve ever been able to work with. Sherilyn’s bridesmaids were so attentive, sweet, and helpful. Mike’s groomsmen were rowdy and having fun, but they were also incredibly adept and considerate when it came to helping Read More

The 2012 wedding gauntlet, or so it was named, is officially over. We’re not finished for the year, but we’re finished with our most demanding portion of this year’s schedule. It was decided to take on the challenge, and put ourselves through a trial this August, with four back-to-back weddings from San Diego, CA, to Santa Barbara, CA, to Portland OR…twice. Most of the time it was just Lucas and myself, no assistants or other shooters. If it weren’t for the tips and tricks we’ve learned from some amazing speakers on Creative Live, I believe we would have had a much more difficult time. We’ll come back to technical talk and photography business workflow in a minute, first let’s talk about how much fun we had hopping around from brewery to brewery in Portland. Obviously, we thought it was a good idea to have a relaxing day, and kind-of celebrate our accomplishments, so we spent the day visiting a few spots in Portland, OR. Read More

So, the juicy wedding details continue… We didn’t want to leave you hanging like that, but we just had to split up the blog posts because there were too many favorite shots and details! Now that we’re back on track with our Portland, OR Merrywood Farm wedding, we will be sharing content from the ceremony on through the sparkler grand exit. Again, we can’t stress what a fantastic time we had at this wedding. The Mr. & Mrs. are a wonderful couple. Their love for each other radiated every moment of the day. Her face was beaming and beautiful, he was delighted and dapper. If you don’t believe me, just have a look at The Dutton Wedding Blog – Part One again, and check out their portraits…especially the Bride & Groom portraits…creamy as butter! We had full blown sun on their wedding day, so the game was finding nice, solid shaded areas with directional lighting if possible. Unfortunately the ceremony site was under Read More

We are absolutely in love with this new line of products for our clients, as it is the most unique and amazing way to compliment your photography, add movement and truly tell your story. So…we bring you part one of the Dutton wedding. This beautiful wedding took place at Merrywood Farm in Oregon City, OR…about a half-hour outside of Portland. The entire area is rural farmland and amazing landscapes everywhere. The owners of Merrywood Farm were so amazingly nice to us. They toured us around the entire property ahead of time, and just opened their home to Read More

We were recently asked to cover a live show at the House of Blues Sunset Strip in Hollywood, CA for a band called SolRising. Being mainly wedding photographers, I had a pretty good idea what this would entail. Shooting a wedding is exhausting…rewarding, but EXHAUSTING! One thing I like to keep in mind is that variety in angles, background, lighting etc truly make for a better album of images from any event. That being said, we weren’t happy with grabbing shots from a handful of angles, we pretty much got insane and shot from everywhere possible. Let me say right now, I love this content! Was it more work that a wedding to get the content? In ways I would say yes. I think with the variety and number of locations you can shoot from at the House of Blues Hollywood, that the possibilities are great. It allowed us to explore and be more creative, to incorporate more of the Read More

What path will you take? It’s hard to imagine how life was before technology, especially for the young generations. Sometimes I wonder how the now pre-teens will see the world in a few decades. What will be lost? What will be retained? How will technology have enhanced, or possibly even hindered or complicated our lives? I speak as a hypocrite, carrying around one of the most amazing small format DSLRs on the planet, when I say that I felt like I was on a foreign planet during this trip; I felt as if I were looking into a portal of the apocalyptic aftermath, a world after the fall of technology, a world devoid of all we currently accept and demand as standard, included, instantaneous, mine. Around every turn, down every road was another desolate view of human existence. How prosperous was the future when these developments were populated, and how did it make such a turn for the worse? If anything I learned that Read More
